Village water meters to be tested in Potsdam

POTSDAM — The village will be testing residential water meters over the next few weeks to determine if any need to be replaced or repaired.

“This week will begin the process of testing all of the water meters to ensure they are in good working order and then which ones might need repair or replacement,” said Village Administrator Isabelle Gates-Shult at the June 18 village board meeting.

Gates-Shult told the board that village code specifies that meters should be checked every five years but the village is out of compliance with that schedule.

Meters will be tested by zones, and staff will be reaching out to residents to notify them of when the testing would occur, the administrator said.

“Just to clarify, if when testing the water meters, we determine there is any damage or any replacements needed, the residents are not responsible for replacement of the meters,” the administrator said. “It is the responsibility of the village to cover those costs.”
