SUNY Canton associate professor named to National Association of Social Workers Merger Team

CANTON – SUNY Canton Associate Professor Christina Lesyk has been named to the transition team overseeing the historic merger of the New York State and City chapters of the National Association of Social Workers.

Lesyk is a licensed social worker in New York State and has worked at the college since 2013. She currently teaches in the popular Applied Psychology program.

After the merger of the New York State and New York City Chapters, it is anticipated that the newly formed New York State Chapter will become the largest chapter in the United States.

"It will be extremely intense to plan and execute a smooth transition between the two Chapters, which are very different in regional structure,” Lesyk said. “It is critical that the merger happens strategically and thoughtfully so that social workers all over New York State continue to receive the support and educational services they need to serve their clients.”

Lesyk is currently serving her third term as the elected board secretary for the New York State Chapter. She is also the treasurer for the Chapter's Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) Committee, the separate arm of the organization that endorses and donates to political candidates who support the mission and responsibilities of the association.
