The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) announced it has reached a tentative agreement with UNIFOR locals 4211 and 4319 representing the Supervisory Group.

The agreement is for a 4-year period, April 1, 2023 - March 31, 2027, according to Seaway officials. A ratification vote will take place in the next few weeks.

Further details will be made available at that time, Seaway officials said.

“The SLSMC thanks all the parties for their commitment in bringing this process to a positive conclusion,” a release said.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation was established in 1998 as a not-for-profit corporation by the Government of Canada, Seaway users and other key stakeholders. In accordance with provisions of the Canada Marine Act, the Corporation manages and operates the Canadian assets of the St. Lawrence Seaway, which remain the property of the Government of Canada, under a long-term agreement with Transport Canada.

Shipping through the Seaway supports over 329,000 jobs and $59 billion in economic activity in Canada and the United States, a Seaway press release said.
