RENSSELAER FALLS – Area residents learned how a large dairy farm operates, viewing 1,600 dairy cows at the annual Day at the Farm Saturday.

The free yearly event, organized by the St. Lawrence County Farm Bureau, took place this year on the Kelly Dairy, DeKalb Kelly Road.

Founded in 1851, the farm is now owned by Allen and Mary Kelly. They are the 6th generation of their family to run the operation.

The Kellys were joined by new partners Mike and Lindsey Fitzgerald in 2018.

Hundreds of attendees toured the farm on hay wagons through the dairy barns. They also heard presentations on manure recycling and nutrient management.

Hands-on activities included a cow milking simulator and cow plop toss game.Slideshow:
