CANTON – The Unitarian Universalist Church will host an evening of jazz with guest musicians the Paul Meyers and Matt Dunne Duo Friday, October 11, 6:30-8:30 p.m.
Potsdam native, Paul Meyers, has played around the world, and while living in New York City has made a name for himself as one of the best jazz guitarists in the country.
The Jazz and Coffee Nights project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by the St. Lawrence County Arts Council.
When asked about jazz as an essential part of the church’s ministry efforts, Rev. James Galasinski the church’s minister said, “Jazz is a unique art that puts us in the present moment and teaches us that while we may not be able to go back and fix things, if we listen to each other, our mistakes become opportunities,” said the Rev. James Galasinski, UU minister.
Performances are staged in a jazz cafe lounge set up, are family-friendly, and hosted in a supportive and alcohol-free environment. The coffee bar includes coffee, teas and herbals, and hot chocolate. All Jazz and Coffee Nights are free and open to the public and welcoming to all. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to support the Church and Community Program.
