CANTON — The St. Lawrence County Industrial Development Agency has released grant funding to rehab railroad tracks used for shipping.
Two facilities will benefit from the repairs and upgrades, with both Alcoa in Massena and the Dunn Paper plant in Gouverneur both seeing a large chunk of funding.
For Alcoa, the move will net the company $900,000 to rehab railroad tracks to the Alcoa west plant.
Alcoa will pay $90,000 for its 10% required match of the $900,000 coming from the state Department of Transportation.
Through the course of the project, rail ties, switches, rail anchors and signals and timbers will be replaced.
The Dunn Paper plant in Gouverneur will receive $494,000 in grant funding from the DOT to fix a railroad crossing near the facility.
According to IDA CEO Pat Kelly, the track has not been passable for some time.
